Plugging into the Metaverse

AR Cloud

The AR Cloud is the future of artificial reality and with the clouds adoption we will have the single greatest influx in vr users in history.

Whats interesting is the AR cloud will take place over space, time and many devices allowing any user with all 3 of these things to log in from any device any where and have shared experiences in the cloud with other user.

I’m confused about how better “ depth camera’s are needed” how will our future cameras have to advance to account for better depth.

Magicverse

Magicverse is a emergent system of systems that will combine the digital world with the physical world. It was based off of Walk Disney’s experimental prototype “Community of Tomorrow” which was reactionary to the 1960’s space race.

What is truly amazing about magicverse is that 50 years ago Disney saw the possibilities of AR, how being digitally connected could exponentially increase the quality of live and give opportunities to millions of people around the world.

Whats confusing was the phrase “paradox of place”, which means the more digitally connected we become the closer we will become as a civilization even though we will be on our own devices physically separate.

Mirrorworld

Mirrorworld is digital copy of the physical world, much like “google earth” that we can use our devices to access and interact with.

The emergence of this new AR world will be the single greatest leap in technology, (a bigger leap than social media or the internet itself)and whatever company develops, pushes this technology will be the richest most powerful company in human history.

Once again this world requires advance sensing technology on our devices to detect objects in the mirrorworld and real world, just wonder how this will work?

Cyberverse

Cyberverse was created by lead camera engineer Luo Wei and unveiled August 11, 2019. The cyberverse integrates the physical world with the digital primarily relying on you phones camera.

With Luo Wei’s new camera sensing technology our phones are quickly becoming the best way to interact and sense a digital world. 5G is also crucial to this next step, 4G servers are completely full and future AR worlds will require massive amounts of broadband and servers.

Right now the cyberverse is mainly four tourism, what only applications could it serve in the future, hospitals, sports..?

Planet Scale AR

Developed by Niantic ( the creators of Pokemon Go), planet scale AR is a planet scale AR platform to enable experiences across current and future generations of user and developer.

Interesting that the company most famous for Pokemon Go also has incredible vision for the future. They see the potential of an AR cloud and the massive challenges of digital infrastructure and wish to create a open platform to bring us together to address those challenges.

Still confused on why it is called “planet scale?”

Spatial Computing

Spatial computing is human interaction with a machine in which the machine retains and manipulates referents to real objects and space. (head movements, gestures, speech)

Spatial computing will be crucial in automated cars and travel, we already see it today in apps like Pokemon Go but these are crude examples of what the future holds.

When will we realistically have self driving cars?

Key Ideas

World of AR is still a developing field, next big company (think apple but bigger) will come from AR

5G is crucial for AR Cloud, 4G is too full, so arrival of 5G and mobile computing are needed.

Our phones and their cameras will most likely be the device that connects us to the future of AR.

Sensing, ability to detect 3D objects, will be most important quality of cameras in the future and necessary for self driving cars.

ARtillry predict 14 Billion in consumer AR revenue by 2021 with only 2 billion being sold in hardware. Shows future of sales is online. Only need initial purchase of hardware.

With the metaverse comes a number of problems. Who will regulate the metaverse, the government? How can we ensure people are safe. Does my ownership of land or property or landmarks in the real world translate to the AR Cloud, and if so is an AR app liable if it encourages users to physically trespass, or just add virtual content? The metaverse is hard to regulate because it is so new, it is the wild west of platforms and with great power comes great responsibility. Through collaboration together we can decide the rules and regulations that will shape the metaverse, this already starting to happen with the“mirrorworld bill of rights.”

Quite frankly the implications of VR are exciting and terrifying at the same time. Humans by nature are social animals if we replace face to face interaction with a digital copy will we be missing something? The positive is the opportunity that will come with the VR revolution, millions of people will have economic and social opportunities that they never would have had. At its best AR will connect us infinitely, at its worst AR will isolate us from what makes us human, our social and spiritual connection to the physical world. Only time will tell.
