“Make a “photograph” without using a camera, a digital printer or darkroom, or any kind”

me reading the directions to the assignment

When we think about photographs we always think about the camera taking the photograph, however how we see the world before we press the button on our camera is just as important. Photography is very diverse and types of photos can range from abstract aestheticism, to surgical detail, to photographs about taking photographs.

My photograph

Taking my photograph of a photograph was a very difficult confusing process. The assignment was so open ended I was confused were to even begin. At first I planned on drawing a glass of water spilling to show time, but when I saw we couldn’t use paper I gave up on that idea. When I reviewed the reading I noticed some things that make a photograph are the frame, the subject, and time. Time was a too difficult of a concept to show so I went with a frame and a subject. In my photo the fence serves as the frame and the plastic goat serves as the subject within the frame. The goat peaks out from the frame the way a real goat would peak out of his hiding spot seeing if the coast is clear.

The assignment taught me to look differently at how I go about finding something to take a photo of and how knowing what type of photo you plan to shoot can help you plan how to take the photo.
